Viktorija Golubic (WTA 89) easily made it through the first round of the WTA 250 tournament in Ostrava. The 33-year-old from Zurich beat Austrian Sinja Kraus (104) 6-4 6-0 in 1h29.
The Swiss thus celebrated a first success this year on the circuit, after two initial defeats in Hobart and at the Australian Open. In the round of 16, she will face the British Katie Boulder (WTA 120).
Another Swiss woman scored a victory on Tuesday, in this case Rebeka Masarova (WTA 114). At the WTA 250 in Cluj-Napoca, she beat Romanian Gabriela Ruse (WTA 72) 6-1 4-6 6-2.
Masarova, a 26-year-old from Basel, recently failed in the second round of qualifying for the Australian Open. She had not won on the main circuit since last June in Berlin. Her next opponent will be the Chinese Wang Xinyu (WTA 33).
Simona Waltert (WTA 94) did not bring a third success to Swiss women’s tennis. The Grisonne logically lost 6-3 6-1 against the Danish Clara Tauson (WTA 16), seeded no. 3, in the round of 16 of the WTA 500 tournament in Abu Dhabi. The match was completed in 1h09.
