Genee & Driessen: Nijhuis Left in the Dark – Today Inside

Despite his Achilles tendon injury, Bas Nijhuis was a guest on Monday evening Today Inside. The referee was unable to leave the studio on his own and was left in the section after his performance In the Walkways left in a dark studio by Wilfred Genee and Valentijn Driessen.

Disaster struck mercilessly for Nijhuis last Tuesday during a regular referee meeting in Zeist. The referee was appointed as referee for the top match between PSV and Feyenoord, but shortly after that news severely injured his Achilles tendon. On Monday Nijhuis confirmed that he will play this season will no longer take action.

The referee was a guest on Monday evening Today Insidewhere he said that he will not be working as a VAR in the near future. After the broadcast, Nijhuis, Driessen and Genee recorded the section In the Walking Walks. After the referee said that he was emotional after his injury, Genee decides that it is time to go to the locker room.

“Figure it out, we’re leaving,” says the presenter, after which he and Driessen walk away from Nijhuis’ chair. “You can’t let me sit here, can you?” the referee asks indignantly. “This can’t be happening. I know you guys have no hearts, but this isn’t normal.” As the pair walk out of the studio, the lights go out and Nijhuis starts shouting even louder. When Driessen and Genee are chatting in front of the dressing room door, Nijhuis starts whistling on his fingers. “He can whistle better on his hands than on his flute,” Driessen notes.
