Feyenoord: Technical Director Search Begins

Feyenoord is actively looking for a new technical director. The club is under pressure due to the disappointing sporting results and wants to intervene at management level. Club watcher Mikos Gouka reports this in the AD Football podcast.

According to Gouka, Feyenoord has now contacted several technical directors. ”I have now heard that Feyenoord has inquired with technical directors whether they are available. There are also lists of names that have not yet been polled. To make it a little more concrete: Feyenoord is looking hard for a new technical director.”

The arrival of a new technical director would have direct consequences for the current organization. “That would certainly be at the expense of Mark Ruijl, who is now the technical manager. One of the underlying thoughts is: suppose you still have to say goodbye to Robin van Persie, then Dennis te Kloese would have to appoint a trainer again if he has the technical position. Internally they think that someone else should look for the next trainer.”

The possible new technical director appears to have little influence on sporting policy in the short term. ”The technical director is not in and he can’t actually do anything, because he can no longer bring in players. It’s actually for the next window,” Gouka said. He also makes a comment about the moment of action, because Feyenoord is in danger of missing out on Champions League football and that has major consequences. “It surprises me a bit, because they are now mainly looking at the longer term and not at the immediate sporting result.”
