Belgian and Portuguese will clash in the Volta à Comunitat Valenciana
The Volta à Comunitat Valenciana starts this Wednesday and will be headlined by Remco Evenepoel and João Almeida. For the Belgian cyclist, it will be his fourth race of the season, with the Portuguese making his debut in 2026.
Remco Evenepoel arrives, moreover, very strong and motivated at this Spanish stage race, after three victories, in three races, achieved in the Mallorca Challenge, thus making his debut in a big way for Red-Bull.
“I’m happy to win with the new team so soon. It showed that we did a good job in the winter and that we are moving in the right direction”, highlighted the 26-year-old Belgian, who left Soudal to join Slovenian Primoz Roglic’s team.
“After my problems last year, it’s great to win again and right at the start of the season”, confessed the three-time time trial world champion, remembering the 2025 season, the start of which was delayed due to a fall in training.
The Volta à Comunitat Valenciana is contested in five stages, one of which is a 17.5 km individual time trial on the second day. The remaining shots, including the first, feature some mountain.
In 2025, João Almeida was 2nd in this race, won by Colombian Santiago Buitrago.
