Critical words after VfB Stuttgart’s 1-2 defeat against FC St. Pauli: Coach Sebastian Hoeneß was dissatisfied with the performance of his midfielder Bilal El Khannouss, whom he had already replaced at half-time.
At the press conference after the game, the coach made it clear that he did not at all agree with the technician’s performance. “I didn’t explain anything to him. That’s not necessary,” was Hoeneß’s cold analysis.
According to the coach, the change was a sporting measure to give the team new energy: “I wasn’t happy with his performance. We felt we had to give some impetus there, and that’s why we changed.” Jamie Leweling came into the game for El Khannouss in the second half and later scored the goal for VfB – but there was no turnaround against the Kiezkickers.
Hoeneß decided not to delve further into the topic. Instead, he wanted to work through the performance “in peace and quiet tomorrow” and then discuss it with him in a constructive conversation. One thing is clear to the coach: El Khannous can do more.
