After just 29 appearances, Davis is heading to Washington as part of a major player trade. What the move means for Dallas.
Just a year after the much-criticized swap with Luka Doncic, basketball star Anthony Davis is leaving Nowitzki’s former club, the Dallas Mavericks. According to information from the AP news agency and other US media, the ten-time NBA All-Star will move to the Washington Wizards as part of an eight-player trade.
Davis only came to the Mavs from the Los Angeles Lakers in February last year in exchange for crowd favorite Doncic. This caused a huge stir in Dallas and probably also led to the departure of the controversial general manager Nico Harrison. Nowitzki didn’t spare any criticism at the time either. “This trade just didn’t make sense. There is no explanation for it,” said the former German NBA star.
Davis’ guest appearance in Dallas was not really successful. He only made 29 appearances due to major injury problems. In addition to Davis, Jaden Hardy, D”Angelo Russell and Dante Exum are also expected to move from Dallas to Washington, in return the Mavs will receive Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham and Marvin Bagley III.
