The men’s national team starts the new Davis Cup year!
The team around head coach Jürgen Melzer will face the Japanese national team in the first qualifying round in Tokyo from Friday.
In the first singles, Sebastian Ofner will compete against Japan’s number two, Yosuke Watanuki (from 6:00 a.m. in the live ticker>>>).
Ofner is Austria’s number one in the Davis Cup team after Filip Misolic was left at home. On paper, the Austrian should be able to hold his own. The Japanese is currently in 166th place, almost 30 positions behind the Austrian, who is in 135th position.
