The 23-year-old gave his approval in principle on Monday. Chelsea and Strasbourg, both owned by BlueCo, agreed on Sunday to a straight loan with no option.
Chelsea preferred this route to Mallorca’s proposal, which included an option to buy worth eight million euros, and especially to Auxerre, which the player favoured. Fofana is under contract at Chelsea until June 2029.
He was due to undergo a medical in London before travelling to Alsace. Confirmation is expected on Monday evening or on Tuesday morning.
In the first half of the season, he scored eight goals in 15 matches in all competitions for Fatih Karagümrük in Türkiye.
