With Super Bowl LX four days away, neither Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald nor Sam Darnold appears concerned about the quarterback’s left oblique muscle injury.
“It’s going great,” Darnold said Wednesday. The time off definitely helped a little. I’m taking it one step at a time, doing my rehab and whatever I need to do to make sure it goes well in practice and during the game on Sunday. »
Meanwhile, Macdonald says his quarterback “is in good shape” and is improving daily.
Darnold’s Super Bowl availability was never in doubt against the New England Patriots. He played through injury in both of the Seahawks’ playoff games and threw three touchdown passes in the team’s victory over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship on January 25.
The doubts concern his training workload this week. He is subject to limited participation according to the seven injury reports that have been issued since he was injured on January 15. After his performance against the Rams, Macdonald said he “barely” practiced that week.
The Seahawks arrived in the San Francisco Bay Area on Sunday evening. The players practiced Monday before having Tuesday off, while Macdonald kept his usual pace. They will practice the rest of the week at San Jose State University.
“We’ll see today,” Macdonald said of the intensity that Darnold can bring in practice. It’s gradually increasing every day. He does more some days. But it is in good condition. I know he’s really confident. We’ll see how it goes today. I’m not completely sure how many throws he’ll be able to make. I can’t really tell you more at the moment. »
