The match between Canada and the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals of the men’s Olympic hockey tournament experienced one of the biggest scandals of the … Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Games. The European team scored their third goal, which at that moment made their partial victory 2-3, with three extra players on the ice.
At first it was noticed that there were six Czech field players on the ice, a number that is now illegal, but later ‘CBC Olympics’ revealed that there were actually eight, two of them apparently retiring, when there should be five plus the goalkeeper.
Furthermore, none of the referees noticed the error, since according to the regulations, the goal scored by Ondrej Palat should not have been added to the scoreboard and a penalty should have been awarded due to too many players. But this action never took place.
Reassembled
Fortunately, both for the referees and for Canada, that goal did not influence the final result, since the North American team managed to come back and finish the match with a 4-3 that gave them a place in the semifinal of the Olympic event, which they will play this Friday against Finland.
If Canada had not achieved the comeback, right now we would be talking about one of the biggest scandals of the Winter Games, in an edition of Milan-Cortina that has not ceased to surprise from the first day.
