Carol Solberg Suspension: Bolsonaro Protest & World Tour Ban

The first stage of the Beach Volleyball World Tour, scheduled for João Pessoa, between March 11th and 15th, will not feature the experienced Carol Solberg. The athlete was punished by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) for celebrating the arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro at last year’s World Cup.

The punishment was revealed by journalist Juca Kfouri, who published the punishment on his blog at UOL. The FIVB’s allegation for punishing Carol Solberg was that the athlete had engaged in “unsportsmanlike conduct”.

After winning the bronze medal alongside Rebecca at the World Championships in Australia, on November 23, 2025, Carol Solberg said it was “an incredible day” for her. But he wasn’t talking about the feat on the sand courts, but rather the confirmation of the politician’s arrest.

Opportunity with security!

“This is an incredible day for me. I’m very happy. And it’s also an incredible day for the world. Yesterday, in Brazil, we put the worst president in the history of Brazil in prison. Bolsonaro is in prison and it’s very important that we celebrate”, he said at the time.

According to Juca Kfouri, the FIVB was based on article 8.3 of its disciplinary regulations, which defines insults, gestures, signs or offensive language, demonstration of a non-sporting nature and behavior that brings discredit to the sport and/or the entity, as “unsportsmanlike conduct.”
