The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) published a press release this Saturday, January 31 in response to the sanctions issued by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
On the evening of Wednesday, the Disciplinary Jury of the Confederation of African Football officially pronounced the sanctions issued respectively against Senegal and Morocco after the events that occurred during the final of the African Cup of Nations on January 18.
On the Senegalese side, coach Pape Thiaw was suspended for five official CAF matches and ordered to pay a fine of $100,000 for “unsportsmanlike behavior, violation of the principles of fair play and integrity, and damage to the image of football.” Players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaïla Sarr received two match suspensions for “unsportsmanlike behavior towards the referee”, while the Senegalese Federation will owe around $615,000 in fines in total.
This Saturday afternoon, the Senegalese body then wanted to publish a press release in response to these heavy sanctions.
“After analysis of the said decision, the FSF notified the continental body of its desire not to appeal the sporting and financial sanctions against it”we can read.
Senegal will pay all fines
In this press release, the FSF affirms that it will pay all the fines received. “ In accordance with the provisions of article 91.4 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, the Senegalese Football Federation confirms that it assumes full financial responsibility for the fines imposed on its association, its technical management as well as its players. »
While reaffirming its “determination to defend its legitimate rights and interests within football governing bodies”Senegal therefore intends “inscribe its action in strict compliance with its statutory obligations, thus working to promote CAF regulations, the integrity of the game and the influence of African football. »
