Brynäs Overtake Färjestad: SHL Standings Update

Färjestad collapses defensively away against Brynäs.
After 4-0 in the back, the star forward Viktor Lodin unloaded.
– It’s too bad, says Lodin to TV4.

– Everyone has to be better, not just the players but also us coaches, says Cam Abbott.

Färjestad has spit up since Cam Abbott stepped in as the new coach. They had won four out of seven games with Abbott before tonight’s game against Brynäs. When FBK have lost, however, they have often lost their way defensively.

In Abbott’s first game, FBK lost a lead and conceded five goals in the second period as they lost 5-3 to HV71. Two weeks ago, Färjestad also suffered a major blow when they lost 8-2 away to Timrå. On Saturday, Färjestad once again leaked heavily behind when they played away to Brynäs.

Brynäs were incredibly effective in the power play and scored both 1-0 and 2-0 in the PP game in the first period. Then Magnus Nygren was disappointed with how the team performed.

– The first 20 of us are pale. It is clear that the expulsions are having their effect. They are sharp in their “pp” and it is unnecessary from us. It is not exactly the start that we want or that we need, says Nygren to TV4.

Viktor Lodin angry: “Damn too bad”

In the second period, however, there was not a particularly big difference. Brynäs made it 3-0 in the power play and before the break it was also 4-0. Then Viktor Lodin really relaxed in the TV interview after two periods played.

– It’s too bad… Too bad “pk”, too bad powerplay and too bad in front of own goal. Sometimes it’s perfectly fine in the attack zone, but no more than that, says Lodin to TV4.

In the third period, Brynäs could then also increase to 5-0, which was also the final result.

– We lose the match in several different moments. Of course, there is a big difference in “special teams” between the teams tonight. We have to be tighter in front of goal and everyone has to be better, not only the players but also us coaches. We need to come up with more solutions that can help us in a match like this. We win as a team but we also lose as a team, says Cam Abbott after the loss.
