Wolfsburg opened two Belgian files in the final moments of the winter transfer window. But both in Bruges and Genk, the German club’s offers were refused.
Onyedika remains at Club Brugge
According to Sacha Tavolieri, an offer of around twenty million euros for Raphaël Onyedika was rejected by Club Brugge. The German club wanted to enlist the solid Nigerian at the end of the transfer window, but the Club decided to wait until next summer to reopen discussions.
Wolfsburg’s proposal included bonuses and came close to the 20 million euro mark. An offer which could have proved sufficient, but the decision of Blauw & Zwart was made: Onyedika is too important.
Genk also rejects an offer for Matte Smets
On the Genk side too, Wolfsburg would have tried an approach: according to Het Laatste Nieuws, the German club would have offered 16 million euros for Mattz Smets. Neither the club nor the player accepted the offer. Genk, for its part, does not wish to part with a manager during this winter transfer window.
Smets also does not see himself leaving the club at the moment. Genk emphasizes that the sporting situation takes precedence and that a departure in the middle of the season is not possible.
Vfl Wolfsburg will therefore have to look elsewhere in the very last hours of the transfer window, after coming up against two refusals from the Pro League…
