The end of the adventure between Djamel Belmadi and the Algerian selection ended without compensation for the former coach. Sacked after the early elimination during CAN 2023, Belmadi had initially discussed an amicable termination with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), which offered him three months’ salary. But frustrated and feeling betrayed, he refused this compromise and left Algeria without a written agreement, leaving the matter unresolved.
From a regulatory perspective, the limitation period for claiming compensation under the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players expired on January 31, 2026. Having not taken any action, Belmadi therefore received no compensation, and the case is now closed according to The Gazette du Fennec. Now coach of Al Duhail in Qatar, the former coach seems to be turning the page, officially ending a chapter marked by the CAN 2019 coronation and a more than frustrating exit.
