The future of Dayot Upamecano is currently overshadowing many issues at FC Bayern. Another star will probably also leave the club.

Munich – Munich – So far, FC Bayern’s season has gone according to plan – and more than that. The outstanding performances in the Bundesliga and the Champions League put the Munich team in a good starting position. The spectacular performances of newcomer Luis Díaz quickly silenced the numerous critics of the 70 million transfer. But now the mood at FCB seems to be changing slightly for the first time. There are sporting and squad structural reasons for this.

After a series of crystal-clear victories, the first Bundesliga defeat against Augsburg followed at the end of January, followed by a draw in Hamburg. The gap to pursuers Borussia Dortmund has suddenly melted to six points and the contract negotiations with central defender Dayot Upamecano are slowly causing unrest. In addition to the Frenchman’s contract, the working papers of Leon Goretzka, who will definitely be leaving the club, and Raphaël Guerreiro are also expiring.

Guerreiro’s contract extension is not worth it for FC Bayern

Again Kicker Reportedly, it is also very likely that the Portuguese will leave Munich. The flexible defensive man came from rival Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in 2023. During these three years, the 65-time Portuguese international repeatedly shuttled between the starting eleven and the bench. The now 32-year-old was able to impress again and again with good performances. But Guerreiro was never irreplaceable.

A contract extension with the left-back, who is often used in the attacking midfield due to his fine technique, is simply not worth it given his age, his performance and his salary. Guerreiro is most likely entering his last six months in Munich.

So while discussions continue about the future of Upamecano, who occupies a key position in Bayern’s defense, the departure of Raphaël Guerreiro is apparently all but sealed. (jsk)
