Marcos Leonardo is about to leave Al Hilal, from Saudi Arabia, to join Atlético Madrid. The news is reported by ESPN Brasil, which reports, this Saturday, that the two clubs have already reached a total agreement and the Brazilian striker will travel from Riyadh to the Spanish capital at the beginning of next week, in order to complete medical examinations and sign a contract.
Marcos Leonardo, 22 years old, was hired by Benfica from Santos, in January 2024, but spent only half a season at Luz, being sold in the following summer market to Al Hilal, for 40 million euros. In a season and a half with the Saudis, the striker has scored 43 goals in 67 games, and in the Club World Cup he was particularly notable, with four goals scored.
Until the end of the season, at least, it will be colchoneros which will be aligned, since the agreement is for a loan, with a non-obligatory purchase option, of 40 million. Marcos Leonardo believes that, with this return to European football, he will be able to reinforce his hopes of being called up by Carlo Ancelotti for the World Cup.
At Atlético, the Brazilian will play in the Champions League, as the Madrilenians are in the play-offs to reach the round of 16, where they will face Club Brugge, from Belgium.
