ASSE: Heartbreak as Points Slip Away

The ASSE reserve played this Sunday against the group leader Orléans. Faced with a tough opponent against whom the Greens had lost 2-0 in the first leg, Jules Mouton’s teammates wanted to take their revenge. Summary of the meeting.

After an encouraging draw against Hauts Lyonnais (0-0), Sylvain Gibert, the coach of the reserve team, showed his satisfaction: “It was a rather successful match. Of course, our competitive side is not satisfied with a draw and the regret especially points to our first period where we should perhaps take the advantage. But in the content as in the state of mind, there are positive things to insist on. We must in particular maintain this defensive solidity. We must now find efficiency and realize our opportunities. All this will end up paying off.”

The composition of the ASSE

Starting XI: Touré – Stojkovic, Appiah, Dodote, Annan – Mouton, A. Traoré, Sissoko – El Jamali, N’Guessan, Agesilas.

Entered the game: Othman, Hornech, Mimoun, Depalle.

A frustrating first

The ASSE reserve begins the match with intensity and shows its opponent the color of the match that awaits them. Unfortunately, as is often the case, the Greens will be surprised on the one and only opponent opportunity of the half. On a poorly returned free kick, the Orléans winger opened the scoring with a superb strike under the bar.

The Greens will try to react immediately and Nadir El Jamali, very much to his advantage in this first act, delivers a perfect cross to N’guessan. The ASSE striker, who has still not scored this season, misses the target… 1-0 at the break for the visitors who are showing more efficiency for the moment.

N’guessan brings out the heavy artillery

The return from the locker room is marked by a big reaction from Saint-Etienne. On a good high recovery, Agesilas finds Traoré who with one touch sends N’guessan to face the goalkeeper and win his duel. 1-1 in this interesting encounter! Jibril Othman thought he would give his team the lead five minutes later but was flagged for offside.

Finally, in the 65th minute of play, on a nice ball release, Nadir El Jamali goes up the field 40 meters before giving the ball to Agesilas who offers the goal to N’guessan who throws himself to score a double. 2-1 for ASSE! Lacking confidence, the Greens will lose control for the last quarter of an hour and will unfortunately see their opponents return to 2-2… At the end of the match Othman will touch the bar before being sent off following an uncontrolled scissors attempt. A frustrating draw for Sylvain Gibert’s men under the eyes of Philippe Montanier!

Next week, the Greens will travel to Auxerre on Saturday February 14 at 5 p.m. A meeting in front of a training center which is always interesting.
