Alessandria Calcio is putting the finishing touches on preparations for tomorrow’s match against Solbiatese in the Coppa Italia national stages. The team, hoping to advance, enters the contest with a favorable outlook, according to reports from Fabrizio Mattana.
Coppa Italia Push for Alessandria Calcio
The stakes are relatively straightforward for Alessandria: a draw against Solbiatese on Wednesday will secure their passage to the next round. A 3-1 victory over Pietra Ligure earlier this month has position them in a strong position, making the upcoming match a crucial, yet potentially manageable, step forward in the competition. The team is aiming to build on recent momentum as they navigate the Coppa Italia bracket.
This match marks a return to a familiar opponent after nearly two decades. Solbiatese Calcio 1911, a club with roots dating back to 1911, has a history of competitive play in Serie C, particularly between 1963, and 1975. The last encounter between the two sides was in the 2005-06 Serie D season, with a 1-1 draw at the Moccagatta and a 1-0 Solbiatese victory at their home ground. Historically, matches between Alessandria and Solbiatese have often ended in draws – 11 out of 21 total games – suggesting a closely contested affair is likely.
Local Badminton Tournament Highlights Emerging Talent
Beyond the world of football, the Boccardo Badminton Novi Ligure recently hosted its first major tournament of the season. The two-day event showcased both established players and rising stars, with Alessandro Stan achieving a notable placement. The tournament provided a platform for young athletes to compete and gain valuable experience.
Umberto Trucco and Matteo Poggio were standout performers, each securing multiple victories. Trucco won the Singolare D final against teammate Jiale Xu, and then teamed up with Patrizia Leardi to win the Misto D final against Dario and Letizia Jiang of Junior Milano. However, Trucco and Davide Caligiuri narrowly missed out on a first-place finish in the Doppio, losing in a close match to Puentes-Guo of Milan.
Poggio also enjoyed success, winning both the Singolare E, defeating Joel Florenz, and the Doppio Maschile E with Jiale Xu, overcoming Gueli-Perencin of “Il Punto” Torino. Danilo Bagnasco and Albert Dascalu secured third place in the same category, as did Francesco Motta, who was defeated in the Level C semifinal by Galmangoda Guruge.
Francesco Trucco came close to gold in the Misto C, partnering with Margherita Ambrogini, but were ultimately bested by the more experienced Qiu-De Guzman. Ambrogini then added a silver medal in the Femminile D with Patrizia Leardi, losing a tight third set 17-15 to De Franco-Rosso of BC Torino.
The Avvento team also had a strong showing, securing a second-place finish in the Misto B and adding two bronze medals. One bronze came in the Singolare B, where Avvento was defeated by Sara Vianelli of Polisportiva Nova Milanese, who went on to win the category. The other bronze was in the Doppio Femminile B, with Helga Paregger of BC Milano, losing to Margot Barbosa and Ustynova of the Novese club.
The Novi Ligure tournament demonstrated the growing strength of badminton in the region, with a diverse range of competitors and exciting matches. It’s a positive sign for the future of the sport locally.
