There is no longer a grand slam trophy left on Carlos Alcaraz’s shelf. The world number 1 completed his shelf this Sunday, by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final of the Australian Open. By 2/6, 6/2, 6/3 and 7/5, the young Spaniard lifted the trophy in Melbourne, completing the feat known as career slam – when a tennis player wins all four grand slam tournaments (Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open) even in different seasons.
At 22 years and 272 days old, Alcaraz is the youngest man in history to have a career slam on his resume. He breaks a record that had already stood for 83 years and belonged to Don Budge, who completed the feat at Roland Garros/1938 at the age of 22 years and 363 days. Before Carlitos, only eight men had won all four slams: Andre Agassi, Don Budge, Novak Djokovic, Roy Emerson, Roger Federer, Rod Laver, Rafael Nadal and Fred Perry.
This Sunday’s achievement also means the seventh slam title for Alcaraz. In addition to the Australian Open, he won Roland Garros in 2024 and 2025, Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024, and the US Open in 2022 and 2025. Carlitos already has the same number of slam titles as John McEnroe and Mats Wilander. Only eight men have more achievements at this level in the Open Era (from 1968) of tennis.
