With his triumph at the Australian Open, Carlos Alcaraz has won all four Grand Slam tournaments at least once. And he is moving away at the top of the world rankings.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner dominate world tennis and have been in a spectacular race at the top of the ATP rankings for some time. At the moment the Spaniard is ahead – and clearly so.
Thanks to his first triumph at the Australian Open, Alcaraz remains in the updated world rankings at 13,650 points. This puts him a whopping 3,350 points ahead of Sinner, who lost a lot after the semi-final exit and currently has 10,300 points in his account. Before the Australian Open, only 550 points separated the two players.
Sinner now has an ace up his sleeve
At first glance, Sinner’s deficit is considerable, but not uncatchable. Because of his doping ban from last year, the Pusterer no longer has to defend any points until mid-May (Masters tournament in Rome) and therefore has all the cards in his hand.

But: Alcaraz didn’t always shine during the time Sinner was missing and especially gave up on the North American tour in March, which is why he doesn’t have to defend an exorbitant number of points (2,340 in total). This will protect him from an immediate Sinner attack in the coming weeks. So it will take some time before the South Tyrolean is back within striking distance of number 1.
Djokovic is number 3 again
Meanwhile, there was a change behind Alcaraz and Sinner. By reaching the final in Melbourne, Novak Djokovic has grabbed number 3 in the ranking, which was previously held by Alexander Zverev. For the first time since September 2024, the 24-time Grand Slam winner is back in the top 3. Lorenzo Musetti is in fifth place.
In the women’s category, Australian Open winner Jelena Rybakina has moved up to third place instead of Coco Gauff and has moved up to second-placed Iga Swiatek. Melbourne finalist Aryna Sabalenka is still clearly ahead.
