ADO Den Haag has put an end to a bad series of five matches without a win. The leader of the first division found the trail to success again in Kerkrade. The people of The Hague defeated number five Roda JC 3-0.
With the victory, ADO Den Haag now has six points more than number two SC Cambuur, but has also played two more matches than the Frisians. Cambuur did not take action. The home match against Almere City was cancelled.
The match had barely started when the players were able to return to the dressing room. Roda JC fans sent a large load of fireworks towards the field 15 seconds after kick-off, resulting in a huge smoke development.
Referee Ingmar Oostrom had no choice but to send the teams back to the dressing room. About 20 minutes later, the referee and the players returned to the field. “Roda JC has put things in order, we are going to play football again,” the manager said in front of the ESPN camera.
ADO was significantly less affected by the interruption than the home team. Within fifteen minutes, the residents of The Hague were on their own. With a rehearsed corner kick, after eight minutes the ball went to Milan Hokke, who placed the ball into the top corner from outside the penalty area: 0-1.
Eight minutes later it was 2-0, when the visitors again opted for a variant with a new corner kick. This time Hokke was the announcer and Jari Vlak was the finisher with a curled shot: 0-2.
ADO Den Haag then remained the better team. Robin Peter’s team was strengthened in the winter transfer period with Jalen Hawkins and Pascal Mulder, both from FC Emmen. Mulder started immediately, Hawkins made his debut after half-time. Bryan Fiabema made his appearance at ADO as a striker.
Striker Luka Reischl started on the bench. At the last minute, Sturm Graz was interested in him, but ADO Den Haag had no need to sell. He came on in the final phase and headed in the 3-0, his tenth goal of this season. Reischl did so on the instructions of Vlak, who also ranks ten with his goal this year.
Loss number three Jong PSV
Number three Jong PSV took the lead at MVV in Maastricht shortly after the kick-off, but the Limburgers showed character and won 2-1. Young Ajax remains last. The team suffered its 14th defeat in 25 matches: De Graafschap was too strong 4-0. Niels Eggens, who came over from FC Groningen, scored twice.
