It won’t just be Mariah Carey at San Siro. A few days before the highly anticipated opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, this Friday, February 5, indiscretions are increasing about the course of the event. And according to information from the very serious Corriere della Serra, rapper Snoop Dogg should also be part of the show.
The Italian daily announces that, if “the succession of performances is still confidential”, the name of the 54-year-old singer is indeed checked, without going into the details of his role. Columnist for NBC at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he caused a sensation by performing during the events before participating in the closing ceremony.
Jannik Sinner as last torchbearer?
The presence of Mariah Carey has been confirmed since mid-December by the organizers. The “All I Want for Christmas Is You” singer will be “a major musical icon of the ceremony,” said a press release.
Among the other international artists expected, pop star Dua Lipa could also be present. Chosen by NBC to promote Team USA athletes, she should play a role in the ceremony, again according to Corriere della Serra.
On the Italian side, the tenor Andrea Bocelli and the singer Laura Pausin will be there. The big unknown remains the role of Jannik Sinner, world number 2 tennis player. A former very high-level skier in his youth, the four-time Grand Slam winner could be one of the last, or even the last, bearer of the Olympic flame.
For the first time in the history of the Games, the ceremony will take place simultaneously in different locations: San Siro, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Livigno and Predazzo. At San Siro, where the Inter and AC Milan football teams usually play, more than 60,000 spectators are expected, with tickets ranging from 260 to 2,000 euros.
The two-and-a-half-hour show plans to give a big place to “made in Italy” but also to pay tribute to the stylist Giorgio Armani, a Milanese and sports fan, who died in September.
