Zinedine Zidane has always been the subject of much speculation regarding PSG, and this was already the case when he was a player. During the summer of 1996, while Zinedine Zidane was preparing to leave the Girondins de Bordeaux to take on a new challenge, there was talk of a transfer to PSG for the playmaker of the France team. Under the presidency of Michel Denisotthe capital club had also tried to recruit the tandem Zidane–Dugarry from Gironde, and the former player agent Marc Roger confirmed these burning discussions with PSG in 2015 in the JDD.
Zidane very close to PSG
« I have always been friends with Luis Fernandez, who coached PSG at the time. I met Zidane and Dugarry regularly and we had organized a meeting with Luis at the beginning of 1996. Unfortunately, relations between Fernandez and Michel Denisot (the president of PSG from 1991 to 1998) were not in good shape and the transaction did not go through. », indicated Marc Roger on this aborted transfer of Zinedine Zidane au PSG.

And the PSG therefore ultimately preferred to keep Rai when the deal collapsed with Zidane : « In place of Zizou, PSG renewed Raï’s contract and recruited Patrice Loko in attack instead of Dugarry. There are a lot of transfers that narrowly fail », specifies Roger.
