Yucatán will consolidate itself as a continental reference for archery by becoming High Performance Center of the Americasa project that will be developed with adjustments to the Wireless Sports Complex and that will be executed during 2026 with joint investment from Yucatan State Government and the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE).
The announcement was made months ago in Mérida by state and federal authorities, in coordination with World Archery Méxicowith the aim of promoting the internationalization and massification of this discipline in the entity. Yucatán will be one of the two centers of this type in the country, along with the one that will be installed in Baja California.
The adaptation works will begin in January and contemplate an approximate investment of 40 million pesosbenefiting hundreds of athletes from southeastern Mexico and Central American countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama and Belizewho will be able to use these facilities for high-level training.
The works are expected to be completed in February, the month in which Yucatán will host the Indoor World Series 500from the 13th to the 15th, an international event that will take place in the Yucatan Siglo XXI Convention and Exhibition Center and that will bring together the best archers in the world. This stage will also serve as a framework for the inauguration of the renovations at the Wireless.
As part of the competitive calendar, the January 11, 2026 the traditional will be celebrated Kings Cup in Tizimínconsidered the third control towards the formation of the state team that will participate in the next National Olympiad. The first official selection will be carried out February 27 to March 1maintaining the projection of local talent as a priority.
Regarding the modality Indoorthe competition is characterized by extreme precision: archers shoot at a distance of 18 meters at a target whose central circle measures just two centimeters, in 10 series of three arrows, with the winner being crowned whoever obtains the highest score.
The promotion of archery in Yucatán is supported by results: in the National Olympiad 2025held in Tlaxcala, the Yucatecan delegation proclaimed itself National Champion when adding 24 gold medals, 10 silver and 12 bronzefor a total of 46 medalsconsolidating the state as a national power in this discipline.
