Yankees Re-Sign Blackburn: Latest News

The New York Yankees announced today that they have re-signed right-handed pitcher Paul Blackburn to a one-year Major League contract.

Blackburn, 32, was 0-3 with one save and a 6.23 ERA (39.0 IP, 47 H, 29 R/27 CL, 12 BB, 34 K, 6 HR) in a combined 15 games (four starts) with the Mets and Yankees during the 2025 season. He began the season with the Mets before being designated for assignment on August 16 and released on August 19. The right-hander subsequently signed a major league contract with the Yankees on August 21.

In eight relief appearances with the Yankees, Blackburn posted a 5.28 ERA (15.1 IP, 16 H, 10 R/9 CL, 4 BB, 16 K, 3 HR), including a 1.50 ERA (12.0 IP, 2 CL) in his final seven regular season appearances. Additionally, he was part of the Yankees’ rosters in the American League Wild Card Series and the 2025 American League Division Series.

Across parts of nine Major League seasons with the Oakland Athletics (2017-24), New York Mets (2024-25) and Yankees (2025), Blackburn is 22-31 with one save and a 4.97 ERA (467.1 IP, 517 H, 269 R/258 CL, 144 BB, 363 K, 62 HR) in 101 career games (86 as a starter). He was selected to the American League All-Star Game with the Athletics in 2022.

A native of Antioch, California, Blackburn was originally selected by the Chicago Cubs in the supplemental round of the first round (56th overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. He was subsequently acquired by the Seattle Mariners along with infielder Daniel Vogelbach from Chicago (NL) in exchange for left-hander Mike Montgomery and right-hander Jordan Pries on July 20, 2016. He was later traded to the Oakland Athletics from Seattle in a trade for infielder Danny Valencia on November 12, 2016.

Blackburn was acquired by the New York Mets from Oakland in exchange for right-hander Kade Morris on July 30, 2024.
