Yankees MLB Plan: Cashman Details Offseason Strategy

New York Yankees fans are not satisfied with the work of the team’s management in the offseason. Except for the change that brought Ryan Weathers from the Miami Marlins, the Bronx troop has not had any major additions.

Signing Cody Bellinger is a point in favor of Brian Cashman’s management, but it is clear that the Yankees need more reinforcements, especially with pitchers who will begin the year on the injured list such as Gerrit Cole or Clarke Schmidt.

Cashman appeared in an interview rejecting criticism from the team’s fans, who believe that the management has not moved in the market.

“First, we have good players. It’s a combination of really talented players. It’s not the same roster as in 2025, I would differ there,” Cashman said, according to SNY. “We have some players who at some point will be coming back from the injured list who are important players; Gerrit Cole obviously being one of them.”

The Yankees gave Bellinger a 5-year contract worth $162.5 million. It seems like a positive move, given what the outfielder showed last year. However, the public wants more from a team that needs to compete this year in its division with the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays, the current American League champions.

Cashman believes that in the second half of the campaign, with the bulk of his team recovered from injuries, they will show a side of what this team can really do, since the main criticisms are that this team is the same as last year.

“We’ve had some additions since the second half of 2025 that became familiar with the Yankees, some with success, some with failures or successes,” Cashman said. “But now they will be in a position to join us with their feet on the ground and adapting, with a manager as well, learning how to use these guys, where they fit, and everything else.”

“So I don’t agree that it’s the same team coming back. There are going to be some differences. And the competition will be different too. In some cases, some teams got better. In other cases, you could argue that some teams got a little worse. Our division is the best in baseball. But in short, one series is not going to define what we believe our capabilities are,” added the Bronx Mules sports manager.
