NEW YORK.─ The Yankees claimed Dominican infielder/outfielder Marco Luciano off waivers from the Orioles on Thursday.
The Giants had waived the former prospect after he was claimed by the Pirates on Dec. 5, but Pittsburgh designated him for assignment two weeks later. Baltimore took him on Jan. 7 but released him last week.
Known for his fast swing and powerful hitting from the right side, Luciano became San Francisco’s No. 1 prospect and was on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list between 2020 and 2024. However, he fell short of expectations after debuting in 2023 with the Giants, hitting .217 with a .590 OPS in 41 games in the Majors. Leagues.
Luciano, 24, spent the entire 2025 season at Triple-A Sacramento within the Giants organization, where he hit .214 (99 hits in 462 at-bats) with 76 runs, 21 doubles, 1 triple, 23 home runs, 66 RBIs, 85 walks and 10 stolen bases in 125 games. Defensively, he played in left field (107 games as a starter) and at first base (1 game as a starter). In six seasons in the Minor Leagues within the San Francisco system (2019, 2021-25), Luciano hit .246 (455 hits in 1,848 at-bats) with 326 runs, 86 doubles, 9 triples, 88 homers, 297 RBIs, 302 walks and 35 steals in 500 games. He has played defensively at shortstop (294 starts), left field (107), second base (27) and first base (1).
