Yamil Bukele Resigns: El Salvador Basketball Federation

Yamil Bukelepresident of the Salvadoran Football Federation (Fesfut), announced on his social networks on the last day of 2025 his departure from the Salvadoran Basketball Federation (Fesfut), which he joined in 2013 and from which he resigned on December 11, one day before the elections in Fesfut.

Through an extensive letter, Bukele stated that in twelve years at the head of the sport of basketball at the national level there were important advances, such as the birth of the Major Basketball League, both men’s and women’s, as well as the hiring of foreign coaches such as Ray Santana for the national teams.

“I leave with the peace of mind of having acted with conviction, honesty and commitment, and with the satisfaction of having served this institution with respect and responsibility,” he explained at the end of the statement.

The now president of Fesfut confirmed that he will continue to be linked to basketball through his position in the FIBA Central Bureau, which he holds until 2027, in addition to revealing that El Salvador will host the 3×3 AmeriCup in 2026 and 2027, in addition to the senior women’s AmeriCup, already confirmed weeks ago by FIBA in 2027.
