This year’s international competition season begins in Qatar with the WTT Champions Doha. Truls Möregårdh and Anton Källberg are the Swedish representatives on site, where starting on Wednesday they will compete against the world elite in the Lusail Sports Arena.
Seven days into 2026, the international tour kicks off again, and it’s off to a flying start with a WTT Champions as the first event on the schedule. Doha is hosting, and it is the first edition of the competition in the Persian Gulf.
The blue and yellow jumps in this year’s first WTT Champions are Truls Möregårdh and Anton Källberg. Both players have recently been successful in the Champions context, with Truls winning in Montpellier last autumn and Anton a week later reaching the quarter-finals in Frankfurt. Trul’s strong fall has taken him to fifth place in the world rankings, and in Doha he is seeded fourth.
Large parts of the world’s elite are present in Qatar. In both the men’s and women’s singles, only the world number 1s are missing from the top-ten ranked players, so the competition is as usual in these contexts fierce. Only singles classes apply, with 32 players for both ladies and gents.
First out of the Swedes is Anton Källberg, who steps into the paddock on Wednesday. There he will face Yukiya Uda, Japan, in the round of 16 at 11:25 Swedish time (13:25 local time). The players have never met before in an international context, and for Anton it will be an exciting power gauge against Uda, whose level can differ significantly between different competitions.
Truls are pitted against more familiar opposition. On Thursday, at 16:40 Swedish time, he goes up against Kanak Jha, USA, who many probably recognize from his time in Sweden earlier in his career. The last time they met was a little less than a year ago, in the Singapore Smash, and then it was the American who somewhat shockingly emerged victorious. A chance for revenge for Truls, then, who after their incredibly strong 2025 are looking for a good start in the new year.
The competition is broadcast on SVT Play, and their broadcast schedule you will find here.
