World Cup: No Night Match Catering

The municipality does not yet see any reason to allow an extension of the regular terrace hours for the catering industry during the Football World Cup. This is the answer of the Municipal Executive to questions from the VVD faction.

The council agrees with the VVD that the catering industry should be able to benefit optimally from the upcoming World Cup. That is why the temporary allowance of TV screens on terraces has been extended. However, some matches start at 1am, 3am or 5am. The municipality does not like that.

There are plenty of opportunities for catering entrepreneurs to do this within their business. Moreover, the municipality expects that there will be less interest in a broadcast in the middle of the night. Public order and the interests of local residents also play a role.

If a permit is requested for an event during the semi-finals and finals, for example on the Grote Markt, the municipality will consider this. If the application meets all requirements, a permit will be issued.
