The year 2026 begins with a big scare for Victor Wembanyama. Author of a brilliant match against the New York Knicks, the San Antonio Spurs pivot was forced to leave the floor at the start of the fourth quarter after a poor reception on a rebound.
He would apparently suffer from a hyperextension of the left knee but was reassuring in the mixed zone at the end of the game, finally won by his franchise on the night of Wednesday to Thursday (134-132).
“I feel good, just a little sore,” the basketball player told the press. “I am very confident. I was actually very close to wanting to return to the field. But they (the medical staff) held me back,” revealed the 21-year-old interior. “I don’t know exactly what happened, but in the end it wasn’t that bad. It was just hyperextension, so it should be minimal,” he hoped, confirming that his left knee was affected and that he would have to undergo several tests during the day to confirm the diagnosis.
Before his new injury, “Wemby” had once again proven himself irresistible, delivering one of his best matches of the regular season on a statistical level. With 31 points and 13 rebounds at 10/12 shooting in just 24 minutes, the French crack seemed to be heading towards his record of 40 points scored against Dallas on October 22.
“I expect to be back for the next game”
But his fall and his limping return to the locker room interrupted the recital of the native of Chesnay (Yvelines), when there was only 10′32″ left to play. “When I think about how I do this hyperextension, I tell myself that I could be more careful with this kind of action,” slipped the Spurs jewel, putting on the table the need to better manage one’s energy during matches.
« I’m fine, I’m fine » (I’m fine, I’m fine)launched the French giant to the fans present in the AT&T Center in San Antonio as he left the floor. As for the duration of his unavailability, Wembanyama appeared confident in the mixed zone: “I expect to be back for the next match” of the Spurs, scheduled for the night of Friday to Saturday against the Indiana Pacers, he said.
As a reminder, the “Alien” only returned in mid-December from another injury, this time to his left calf.
