WC U20 2026: Czechs’ Flight Delayed by Weather

The Czech hockey juniors will not fly to the USA with their silver medals from the world championships on Wednesday. The return of the team is complicated by unfavorable weather. PR manager of the Czech Ice Hockey Association, Michael Schuster, told ČTK.

The winter weather significantly disrupted traffic in many European countries today. In the Netherlands, it led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights, and it was through Amsterdam that the Czech hockey players were supposed to head to Prague.

Therefore, the hockey association also canceled the planned press conference. “For 99 percent it won’t happen and it will take place a day later,” said the union’s media manager Marek Nemčík.

The change in the return date may also change the reception of the hockey players at Prague Castle, where they were invited by President Petr Pavel, who congratulated them on their silver medal, after losing the final against Sweden. The specific date has not yet been announced.

The Czech team is not the only one that had to stay in Minnesota. In the same way, due to the snowstorm in Amsterdam, the golden Swedes lost.

“Of course we are looking forward to going home. But I would easily spend a few more days here. We will eat popcorn and drink milk,” said the best striker of the tournament, Anton Frondell, to Aftonbladet.
