Discussions around Andrew Wiggins are taking on a new dimension as the transfer deadline approaches. On the San Francisco Bay side, the idea of a return of the winger continues to gain ground, to the point that the outlines of a potential offer are starting to filter through. And this time, the price to pay seems clearly identified.
According to several consistent reports, Golden State is seriously studying the possibility of repatriating Andrew Wiggins, currently under contract with Miami. To convince the Heat, however, Californian leaders know that a simple marginal adjustment will not be enough. The required consideration would be substantial and structured around several key elements.
Miami remains adamant on one specific point: Any deal involving Wiggins must include a first-round draft pick. This requirement conditions all discussions and forces Golden State to build a package capable of absorbing the winger’s salary while meeting the Heat’s sporting expectations. With this in mind, Jonathan Kuminga appears to be a central piece of the negotiations.
A return that would make sense for Golden State
To balance the financial aspects, Buddy Hield would also be included in the offer, allowing the Golden State franchise to reach the necessary amounts. The addition of a first round draft pick would complete this package, giving Miami both a young player with potential, a proven shooter and a long-term asset. A structure which better corresponds to the requirements of the Heat in its desire to remain competitive while preparing for the future.
The context makes this hypothesis all the more credible as Wiggins knows the Golden State environment perfectly. NBA champion in 2022 with this organization, he played there for several seasons, between 2020 and 2025, playing a major role in the collective successes. His versatile profile on the wings was then decisive in the balance of the squad.
Today in Miami, Wiggins is having a solid season statistically, with nearly 16 points per game and an outside efficiency close to 40%. His contract, which expired at the end of the season with an important player option for next year, also makes it a strategic file for the Heat, who must anticipate their future salary decisions.
The global context also plays in favor of a possible movement. Since Jimmy Butler’s serious injury, unavailable for the rest of the season, Golden State has been looking for new solutions to remain competitive. Wiggins’ return would provide a familiar, immediately operational option, while Miami would recoup assets that could fit into a more flexible draft.
