[서울경제TV 광주·전남=오중일 기자] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do is once again attracting attention as a winter field training site. In addition to the mild winter climate and stable sports infrastructure, it provides a differentiated training environment by combining the ‘ocean healing’ program.
According to Wando-gun on the 7th, 67 teams and 1,800 athletes in 5 sports, including soccer, badminton, soft tennis, and tennis, are scheduled to visit Wando for field training by the beginning of this year. Starting on the 26th of last month, eight university soccer teams, including Kyonggi University and Suwon University, began training first.
After mid-January, badminton, tennis, soft tennis, and elementary school soccer teams sequentially visit Wando. The military is providing these athletes with a marine healing program to help them recover and manage their condition after training.
Wando-gun is a region that promotes itself as the ‘No. 1 marine healing destination,’ and its strengths include a clean marine environment and healing content utilizing various marine resources. Athletes can experience 16 therapies at the Wando Ocean Healing Center, the first ocean healing facility in the country.
Among these, low-frequency therapy helps strengthen muscles and relieve pain, the meditation pool provides a full-body relaxation effect, and Vichy therapy helps recover from fatigue after training through hydraulic massage. Additionally, in the health measurement room, you can check the changes in your body before and after the ocean healing program through body type analyzers and body composition tests.
Wando-gun also opened a dedicated group exercise (GX) room for field training athletes, providing a space for stretching and relaxation. In fact, among high school and college soccer team players who have experienced the ocean healing program, it is evaluated as effective in recovering physical condition.
Kwak Tae-won, coach of the Suwon University soccer team, said, “It was unfamiliar at first, but the ocean healing program after training helped speed up the players’ recovery,” and added, “We plan to prioritize Wando as a training site in the future.”
A Wando-gun official said, “Field training incorporating marine healing is a strength that can only be experienced in Wando,” and added, “Through a differentiated training environment, we will attract more athletes and lead to revitalization of the local economy.”
