VoetbalPrimeur: Happy 2026 & Sporty Wishes!

It’s 2026! Happy new year!

With an oliebol in our left hand and a glass of champagne in our right hand, we look back on a wonderful football year, in many respects. We, the entire VoetbalPrimeur team, would like to thank you very much for this.

2026 also promises to be a great year. Can defending champion PSV still be identified? Will Dutch success in Europe follow again? Will the transfer violence of recent years be surpassed again? And perhaps the biggest question: will ‘we’ win the world title? You won’t miss anything on VP: in the new year we will remain the place for the most relevant, interesting and best news.

Records will be broken in 2025

This is also a perfect moment to look back one last time. Because what a year it was. The VP machine was working overtime: more than 34,000 articles in one year is a new record – and an improvement of 6,000 articles compared to 2024. With more than five million unique visitors per month, billions of page views, loads of plays on the site and YouTube, great listening figures in all podcast apps and countless millions of reach on social media, it can be said that it was a great year in every respect.

The next record will hopefully be broken in the first weeks of 2026: on Instagram we are approaching the barrier of 350,000 followers, partly due to our team of designers, internally referred to as the ‘social kings’, who build every edit themselves (what AI?!). We also continue to grow on YouTube and TikTok.

The enthusiastic editorial staff of VoetbalPrimeur was on the road more than ever in 2025. We followed PSV, Ajax, Feyenoord, AZ, FC Utrecht and Go Ahead Eagles in Europe: from Liverpool to Frankfurt and from Athens to London; VP was there. No press conference of the traditional top three was skipped and in the summer we visited all Eredivisie clubs for interviews and reports.

Erik ten Hag, Arne Slot, Peter Bosz, Robin van Persie, Louis van Gaal, Frenkie de Jong, Virgil van Dijk, Ronald Koeman, Luciano Valente, Steven Bergwijn, Ryan Gravenberch, Joey Veerman, Jerdy Schouten, Cody Gakpo, Kees Smit, Ismael Saibari, Micky van de Ven, Mohamed Ihattaren, Malik Tillman, Luuk de Jong, Lutsharel Geertruida, Tijjani Reijnders, Ricardo Pepi, Bart Verbruggen, Sergiño Dest, Mexx Meerdink, Troy Parrott, Dávid Hancko, Jorrel Hato and so many others: they all stood in front of our blue VP pop hood this year. And we brought all these interviews with a lot of love, every time, to our loyal community.

We were and are always at the heart of the action. Where football really lives. And we will continue to do that.

#DoneDeal, Van Hanegem and RadioRing nomination

We rose to new heights with our podcasts. #DoneDeal made its mark as the transfer podcast of the Netherlands and can count on an involved community. We also completed an XXL transfer ourselves: none other than Willem van Hanegem joined VoetbalPrimeur. In VP’s Willem & Wessel, the original Feyenoord player discusses the most striking football news from De Kuip together with his regular partner Wessel Penning.

And what about Studio Oranje. Our podcast about the ins and outs around Oranje was nominated for the Golden RadioRing 2025 in the category ‘most popular podcast’ by AVTROTROS. More than Football: Día y Noche also went viral, with great interviews with Jeffrey Bruma and Wytse van der Goot, among others. You are currently also listening to Atlas Leeuwen, the VP podcast about the Africa Cup. To end the year appropriately, we joined forces with Serious Request.

Thanks to loyal community

It was a pleasure to continue to fascinate you as a community. At VP we can build on a great base of loyal visitors every day. In 2025, there was more discussion than ever in our comment section. But: boss above boss. There are three users who were so active on our website this year that they were allowed to take the stage.

At number one, with the most comments on VoetbalPrimeur in 2025, Go Wim Jansen. With no fewer than 17,550 comments, he is the clear number one. Second place is taken by PRICE PSV with 14,200 comments. And last but not least the number three, mcmodd, with 12,550 contributions.

The most comments were posted on September 1, Deadline Day: 10,182 comments. Over the entire year, the counter has reached a bizarre number of more than 1.7 million (!) comments. The most tagged player of 2025 is Noa Lang.

Chapeau for your enormous commitment. Together we make VoetbalPrimeur the platform that it is. A special thank you goes out to our moderators, who have done a fantastic job under the circumstances by keeping the comments section as friendly and respectful as possible, with room for passionate discussions between passionate football fans.

We are entering the new year with the good intention to be even nicer to each other next year and to make VoetbalPrimeur an even more beautiful and fun football place together. A year that will possibly be even better, with the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada as the absolute highlight. You’ve come to the right place at VoetbalPrimeur.

Let’s toast to health, happiness and a fantastic 2026!
