The shakedown is an important measurement moment for teams every year. In advance you might say no, because there are important conditions attached to it and it is officially called a film day. Nevertheless, F1 teams can see for the first time whether the car works properly. System checks play a key role.
Especially in 2026, the shakedown will have an additional function now that the regulations have been significantly overhauled. The teams have developed a completely new car and engine and would like to drive 200 kilometers before the winter tests. For example, Audi, Cadillac and Racing Bulls recently took action and Ferrari, among others, has a film day planned around the launch of the new car.
However, Red Bull breaks with its tradition of recent years, because the racing team from Milton Keynes has chosen to skip the shakedown. This undoubtedly has to do with the possibility of testing for nine days compared to last year’s three days. Nevertheless, it is quite striking, because Red Bull has built its own engine for the first time in history.
In terms of power source, however, they can somewhat rely on Racing Bulls. Of course, the two teams have to function separately, but Red Bull officially supplies engines to Racing Bulls. Thus, they undoubtedly receive feedback about the power source. If all went well, it will undoubtedly give you confidence. Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar can put their new car through its paces during the winter test in Barcelona from Monday 26 January.
