Verstappen: F1 Super License Fee Revealed

Drivers who participated in Formula 1 must pay a certain amount every year for their FIA super license. This is, as it were, a driver’s license that allows you to participate in the premier class of motor racing. And the cost of that driver’s license is no joke.

The costs consist of a fixed amount that is the same for every driver, which is €11,842 in 2026. That already sounds quite pricey, but for some drivers that adds up to quite a bit of money. For every point a driver scores in 2025, an additional €2,392 will be added. For top drivers, such as Lando Norris, Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri, that amount increases considerably.

If you quickly do the calculations, both Norris and Verstappen will end up with an amount of more than a million euros. Piastri, in turn, remains just under a million. Four drivers are the cheapest off this year. These are of course the drivers who did not score any points last year: Franco Colapinto because he did not achieve a top-ten finish, Arvid Lindblad because he is a rookie, and Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez because they return to the grid.

In all cases, the invoice is paid by the team. It is the toll of fame, fame for which successful teams are also royally rewarded through prize money.
