Středočeské Měchenice looks like a small village, the notice board at the bus stop invites you to local entertainment or concerts by bands such as Šwor and Olympic. Despite its village character, the proximity to the capital is noticeable. The development is located on a slope above the Vltava.
At the end of last year, the place became the center of attention of the entire republic. The well-known wrestler Karlos Vémola also lives here.
The day before Christmas, the police arrived at his house called Vémoland. The operation was led by the anti-narcotics headquarters together with customs officials. At the same time, the wrestler had to enter the hospital due to an operation for inflammation of the jaw. Instead, the police charged him, along with other people, with serious organized drug activity. They face a sentence ranging from 10 to 18 years in prison, suggesting that this group should be international in scope. The district court for Prague 7 subsequently sent the fighter into custody. However, no drugs were found during the search. The wrestler remains in custody to this day.
Two more arrests they have to be businessman Antonín Beck Sr. and MMA wrestler and Vémol’s protégé Antonín Beck Jr. In 2017, Antonín Beck Sr. was sentenced to six years for attempting to control the Thermal Spa in Chrastava through fraud and embezzlement, which should have caused damage of almost 45 million crowns.
He was paroled in 2020 after serving half of his sentence. Vémola himself has already been convicted once for a drug offense in Britain. It was a cannabis plant, for which the wrestler spent a year in prison.
Workers replaced domestic workers
The Měcheničtí themselves don’t want to talk too much about the recent raid. “I know about it, but that’s all I’m going to tell you about it,” says a middle-aged man walking his dog a few streets away from “Vémoland”. The dog’s barking then echoes beyond the walls of the warrior’s home. But there is no one from home here. But there are several men moving around on the roof of the house. Construction work is underway on the flamboyant building.
“We have our work here. We don’t know anything at all,” says one of the workers to the Aktuálně.cz reporter. If you want to get to the house, you have to go through the entire Měchenice from the Vltava to the top of the slope. The house is one of the last to be built here. There are only fields ahead.
The bars of a large cage can be seen behind the wall of the house. Vémol’s lions live here. Although the house is now uninhabited, the animals are taken care of. And it’s not just lions. A crocodile or predatory fish also live in the house. Vémol’s friend Tomáš Lundák comes here to feed them.
“As for the lion who has Karlos as his boss, he gets nervous for a while when I come. But with the feeding holes in the cage, you don’t have to be afraid. And in two or three days he gets used to it again, so everything runs as it should.” stated on Saturday for the CNN Prima News Lundák server.
“The crocodile always has the worst of it. Because she’s a female, she won’t take anything from me for three days, and then she starts eating. She’s very fixated on Kaja. Now she’s married, so it’s okay,” he added. “At this time, we have no information or suspicion that the animals have not been cared for,” stated then the press spokesman of the State Veterinary Administration.
The construction work currently underway at Vémol’s house is not the only investment the wrestler made before his arrest. Wrestler lately invested to real estate. For example, he bought part of a house in Prague’s Prosek for 27 million crowns. Everything was financed by a loan. Three years ago, he bought an apartment in Úpica for seven million crowns and land near Bakov nad Jizerou. The wrestler bought “Vémoland” itself in 2018 for 14.5 million crowns.
