Van Gucht & Cycling Fans: Controversy Erupts

We are only a few days into the new year, yet Ruben Van Gucht has once again managed to draw attention to himself. Last weekend he explained how many women are on his ‘infamous’ list, then brought up something else that caused a stir.

Reuben the Conqueror

During De Weekwatchers, the program that Van Gucht presents every weekend on Radio 2, the blonde sports journalist indicated yesterday that there are no fewer than 69 women on his infamous list (with whom Ruben had an intimate relationship).

It caused a surprised look from guest Ward Lemmelijn, and the VRT man’s words were once again discussed extensively on social media.

Driving license still available

Just like this was the case after last Sunday. During the live broadcast of the cross in Zonhoven, Van Gucht showed on Sporza that he still has his driver’s license, after Tibor Del Grosso laughed and wondered ‘how Van Gucht gets to the studio’.

Van Gucht was recently sentenced to a driving ban for around a year (all together) for a series of offences. However, effective implementation may take some time.

However, cycling fans do not really like Van Gucht’s action in Zonhoven. The reactions don’t lie: there is clearly a lot of arrogance he avoids, and the fact that he seems to have no sense of guilt also offends people.
