Vito van Crooij will almost certainly continue his career at Sparta Rotterdam, it is reported Football International Tuesday evening. The 29-year-old right leg of NEC, who previously joined the lords of the castle was active, should be the successor to Ayoub Oufkir, who left for AZ.
Van Crooij was not assured of a starting place for the Nijmegen team under Dick Schreuder. The Venlo-born midfielder only started four times in the first half of the season. Van Crooij came on six times and was on the bench nine times for ninety minutes.
Due to the lack of prospects, NEC was open to a winter departure. Heracles Almelo and Fortuna Sittard were eager to strengthen themselves with Van Crooij, who himself was not open to this. He does like a move to Sparta, partly due to the presence of Maurice Steijn, he said VI. The pair previously worked together at VVV-Venlo and Sparta and maintain a good relationship.
Steijn and Van Crooij spoke this week in Venlo, where the Rotterdammers are at a training camp. “The foundation was laid there for the transfer,” it said. Only the final formalities still need to be completed before Van Crooij can call himself a Spartan again. The game distributor was already active at Het Kasteel between 2021 and 2023.
