Wout van Aert unfortunately had to end his cyclo-cross winter due to a fall in Mol. This had already happened to Laurens Sweeck, who was doing particularly well.
Sweeck had a particularly hard fall in Loenhout, after which he had to be taken to hospital. Research showed that he had suffered an acromioclavicular luxation (dislocation of the joint between the collarbone and shoulder girdle, ed.) of the highest degree.

Wyseure supports Sweeck
In short, the end of the season for the current leader in the World Cup standings. Sweeck may be looking at an even longer rehabilitation than Van Aert. ”I sent Laurens a message, after which we talked about his crash. It is of course a great pity. He was really doing great,” said Crelan teammate Joran Wyseure in conversation with Cycling newspaper.
“He is also a really nice teammate to have,” Wyseure, who is also doing exceptionally well himself, continued about his 32-year-old compatriot and teammate. ”He also occasionally gives some tips during the exploration. It is useful to have someone like that around you during the hours leading up to the cross.”
End of story in WB rankings
At the time of writing, Sweeck is still leading the WB rankings, but this will logically change after the heat in Zonhoven, which will be held on Sunday, January 4. ”He now sees all that passing by. That is of course very unfortunate”, Wyseure once again encourages him.
“It will be a tough blow for Laurens, also mentally,” concluded Wyseure. ”I wouldn’t wish it on anyone and certainly not Laurens. It’s a golden boy, it’s definitely not fun.”
