The Latvian basketball club “Valmiera Glass/Vidzemes Augstskola” (VALMIERA GLASS VIA) lost 91:106 to the British team Bristol “Flyers” in the European Northern League (ENBL) match tonight.
VALMIERA GLASS VIA “broke” in the second half – if after the first 20 minutes the home team trailed by only -2, then after the third quarter both teams were separated by 14 points. In the final ten minutes, the “Flyers” continued to increase their speed and at one point even reached +31, making the difference at the end a little more “decent” for the Valmierians.
For the home team, Anivaniva Tate-Jones scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Curtis Hollis had 21 points and four steals, Dāvis Ozer had 12 points and five rebounds, Omar Pajić had 11+6, and Dominiks Steņonis had 10 points and eight assists, but also committed five errors.
British Owen McCormack and American Joseph Anderson contributed to the success of the Bristol team, who scored 20 points each. The second of them also stood out with six assists and three interceptions.
VALMIERA GLASS VIA had a brilliant start to the year 2026, “Optibet” in the Latvian-Estonian league winning “Rīgas Zeļlius” (121:103) and Tallinn “Kalev/Cramo” (90:79), and in the first game of the Latvian Cup quarter-finals, gaining a 14-point advantage over “VEF Rīga” (109:95).
VALMIERA GLASS VIA did not use the opportunity to secure a place in the ENBL elimination tournament. The Vidzeme club has won four successes in six games in the Northern League this season. “Flyers”, who have a record of 8-8 in the local league, won their third win in seven ENBL matches against VALMIERA GLASS VIA. It is interesting that the Bristol team managed to achieve all their success away from home.
VALMIERA GLASS VIA will play their next match on Saturday, when they will meet with Vefinu. In the Northern League, Valmierians will go to the field again on January 28, in an away meeting with “TalTech/Alexela” from Tallinn.
