Vagno: Copinha Debut & Fluminense Preparation Praised

Back to work last Friday (02/01), when they trained at night on the synthetic grass field at the Vale das Laranjeiras Training Center, in Xerém, Fluminense did it again this Saturday (03/01). The preparation comes to an end this Sunday morning (04/01), the day before the game against Água Santa-SP, scheduled for 9:30 pm, in the opening round of Group 25.

The training period lasted around a month and a half and included competition in the fourth edition of the Copa Xerém Sub-20, an international competition promoted by the club. After the runner-up, the routine continued at full steam. With Flu since 2017, Vagno dreams of the hexa in his second participation in the most famous grassroots tournament in the country.

“Thank God, our preparation was very good. Since the end of Carioca, we started training for the Copa Under-17, in 2024.

In addition to training at different times, since they will play in three shifts during the first phase of the championship, the kids also worked on a pitch similar to the one they will find starting this Monday (05/01), at the Estádio Municipal Prefeito Gabriel Marques da Silva, in Santana de Parnaíba (SP). The ball rolls with broadcast from CazéTV.

“It’s very important to get used to different schedules, which are closer to the Copinha matches. We often play in the morning, wake up and get ready close to game time. Playing at night, the day gets longer. On the synthetic pitch, you can get used to the fast ball. Today it still rained, which can happen there and make the grass faster. So, we try to get used to it as quickly as possible”, said the 18-year-old from Cuiabá, who renewed his contract, in October, until the end of 2028.

There are 30 registered, of which 22 travel to Osasco (SP), where the delegation will be staying, early next afternoon. This is the case of Vagno himself, who debuted among the professionals in 2025, when he won the OPG Sub-20 Tournament and the silver series of the Copa Mitad del Mundo-EQU Sub-18.

“Playing in my second Cup is very important, because, since we are young and reach the youth category, we see older people playing and can see it as a goal. It was a year in which I managed to fulfill my dream of debuting for Fluminense’s professional team and winning titles with the Under-20s, so I believe I had a very good season. That, in 2026, I can repeat it”, he concluded.

Right-back Júlio Fidelis, defender Loiola, midfielder Wallace Davi, midfielders Naarã Lucas and Riquelme Felipe and attackers Keven Samuel, Matheus Reis and Wesley Natã are integrated into the main team. Right-back Arthur Ryan and midfielders Brasília and William Junior, who were among the 40 pre-registered, were left over from the definitive relationship due to injury.
