USA Motorbike Seizure: Rossi’s Aprilia Included

They belonged to one of America’s most wanted criminals, also the owner of the million-dollar Mercedes CLK GTR found a few months ago

About 60 racing bikes hidden in a warehouse

We told you the story of the discovery of a very rare Mercedes CLK GTR Roadster, a supercar worth 13 million euros, seized by the FBI during a search. The car, owned by Ryan Wedding, former Olympic snowboarder turned alleged drug kingpinturned out not to be the only vehicle in his personal collection, as a further branch of investigation managed by the Mexican police led to the discovery of around 60 very valuable racing motorcycles.

A 40 million dollar treasure

The 44-year-old Canadian citizen, who figures on the FBI’s list of the ten most wanted fugitives, is suspected of running a transnational drug trafficking operation that ships cocaine from Colombia to Canada, via Mexico and Southern California. In the meantime though Mexican authorities seized his collection of motorcycles which has an estimated value of 40 million dollars and which will join other items believed to belong to Wedding, including two Olympic medals and several works of art.

There are bikes by Rossi, Marquez and Capirossi

The FBI, the Los Angeles Police Department, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Mexican authorities collaborated in the operation that led to the discovery of this treasure composed mainly of racing motorbikes, belonging to great champions. In fact, it seems that they have been identified two motorcycles that belonged to Valentino Rossi (an Aprilia and a Ducati) and the Moto 2 with which Marc Marquez won the world title, but there is also another Ducati, one of those ridden by Loris Capirossi. The motorbikes, crammed into a warehouse in Mexico City, were piled up haphazardly, exactly like the CLK, found in good condition but almost forgotten in a corner.

A Ducati and an Aprilia belonging to Rossi and Marquez's Moto2 seized in the USA together with other collector's motorbikes

Wedding was indicted last year in federal court in Los Angeles and the State Department is offering a $15 million reward for information leading to his arrest. Without his supercar and racing bikes, he will have to rely on more normal vehicles to continue his escape, even though the FBI believes he is still in Mexico, protected by the Sinaloa Cartel.
