Sebastián Baéz played at a very high level against Stan Wawrinka for a victory in straight sets of 7-5, 6-4 and made it 1-1 in the quarterfinal series of the United Cup between Argentina and Switzerland, in Perth. Third victory of the week for the Buenos Aires native, in one of his best tournaments on this surface.
At the first round, Belinda Bencic defeated Solana Sierra 6-2 and 6-2. The 28-year-old won all three of her singles matches in straight sets, after also defeating the Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean already the Italian Jasmine Paolini in the group stage. Additionally, he won both of his mixed doubles matches this week.
The doubles of Guido Andreozzi and Lourdes Carlé will seek a place in the semifinals in an unprecedented event in the short history of the competition.
It should be remembered that Argentina finished second in Group A with a 1-1 record and, more importantly, a 4-2 record in matches.
