Union Semi-Finals: Goals & Victory!

For the time being, Union SG remains the only Belgian club active on three different fronts. The reigning champion qualified for the semi-finals of the Croky Cup on Wednesday. Goals from Promise David and Kamiel Van de Perre were enough to defeat FCV Dender.

The winter break in Belgian club football is over, and the first tickets for the semi-finals of the cup were handed out on Tuesday. Antwerp FC qualified after extra time at the expense of La Louvière. But the stunt of the evening came courtesy of Charleroi, which eliminated defending champion Club Brugge.

The great performance of the Carolos was also welcomed by both clubs that had to compete the next day. One of them will compete against Charleroi in the semi-finals, which will be completed with a first and second leg. A much more feasible card than Club Brugge.

Great goals before half time

For Dender it was also a great inspiration for a similar stunt. But that never really turned out to be an issue. Although the home team started promisingly, it was the visitors who took the lead. After less than twenty minutes, David got the ball in the box. The Canadian striker scored wonderfully.

Not much later, the people of Brussels completely took control of the match. After a good combination, the ball reached Van de Perre. He scored the 0-2 with his first goal ever as a professional. The midfielder immediately established the halftime score. Dender could only do little in return.

Union holds up without any problems

In the second half, coach Milkon’s team tried to change course. But when there were goal chances, the attackers failed to finish. At Union, coach Hubert still had plenty of room to give newcomer Biondic his debut. The people of Brussels had long been at peace with the 0-2 scoreline and that was ultimately the end. Union will therefore remain active on three fronts for at least another two weeks. Dender can focus on the battle for conservation.
