In the U16 match played in Kocaeli, the match was stopped for a short time due to a fight in the stands. Last night at 20.30, Gelişim Sports Club and Çayırova Municipality faced each other at Kocaeli Atatürk Sports Hall. In the 3rd quarter of the match, when the score was 44-21 with 2 minutes and 24 seconds left before the end of the period, a fist fight started between two parents in the section of the tribune closest to the field, for an unknown reason. The incident escalated when the parent of the athlete from the rival team, who passed in front of the other parent while he was about to leave the hall, turned back, got into a verbal argument and punched him. In a short time, other parents in the stands joined the fight and the referees stopped the match.
Some parents involved in the fight reacted to the referees Fatih Şafak and Ozan Gündüz, who tried to calm the incident. After Ertuğrul K., one of the parents whose son wears the Çayırova Municipality jersey, stated with sarcastic expressions that the fight broke out because of the referees, the referees requested the field commissioner to call the police. After the police teams came to the hall and calmed the parties, the referees filed a complaint and the incident was transferred to the police station.
During the moments when the game was stopped, the athlete children on the field asked the referees to continue the match. The match continued from where it left off, and the host team, Gelişim Sports Club, won the match 64-38. After the match, the observers and referees went to the police station and gave statements.
