Monday, the day after his team’s last match this season, the 27-year-old athlete was asked about the possibility of him getting a “fresh start” with another team on the Goodell circuit.
“That would be great. That would suit me,” he replied, whose comments were reported by The Palm Beach Post.
Selected by the Dolphins with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 draft, Tagovailoa was passed over in favor of rookie Quinn Ewers for the final three games of the campaign.
The pivot made 76 starts in six seasons with the Miami club. He only played one full season due to the numerous injuries he suffered.
In 14 games in 2025, Tagovailoa completed 67.7% of the passes he attempted for 2,660 yards and 20 touchdowns. However, he was the victim of 15 interceptions, a career high for him in the NFL.
The Dolphins finished the year with a 7-10 record and missed the playoffs for a second straight campaign.
Two years ago, they gave Tagovailoa a generous four-year, $212.4 million contract extension. If the organization decides to get rid of the quarterback, it will find itself with a huge penalty of $99.2 million on its payroll.
