TSV Freystadt: Loss & League Lead Slip

Actually, everything went according to plan for TSV Freystadt on the double match day of the 2nd Badminton Bundesliga: On Saturday they managed a 7-0 win at BV Maintal, an exclamation mark, before the top game at 1. BCB Saarbrücken II on Sunday: the front runner from Freystadt against the third team. But then came the shock for TSV, who unexpectedly lost 2:5 – and thus also lost their lead in the table.

No problems against Maintal

As reported, top talent Aurelia Wulandoko had to miss the game due to injury. Austrian national player Christian Tomic was back in the squad after a long break.

Freystadt was clearly the favorite in Saturday’s game against Maintal. The Hessians were missing their top players, the Frenchman Nicolas Hoarau and the Ukrainian Sofia Lavrova. Accordingly, Freystadt led 3-0 after the three doubles. Andreas Pistorius and Mihaljo Tomic, the women’s doubles Katharina Rudert and Ella Neve and the second men’s doubles Victor Petrovic and Christian Tomic each won easily in three sets.

When Neve then won her singles, Freystadt’s success was certain. Tension arose in the top singles: the Serbian national players Petrovic and Andrija Doder met there. The Maintaler won the first set, then Petrovic dominated the game and won the following sets. After the victory in the mixed doubles by Rudert and Mihaljo Tomic, the decision in the second men’s singles came in the fifth set, in which Christian Tomic ultimately had the better end.

Opponent fields top players

On Sunday against the second representative of the multiple German champions 1. BC Saarbrücken-Bischmisheim it was already clear from the line-up: It will be difficult. The Saarland team included two former national players, Michael Fuchs and Freystadt native Johannes Pistorius. Despite a good performance, Mihaljo Tomic and Christian Tomic lost in the first doubles match to Fuchs/Pistorius with 13:11, 10:12, 6:11 and 6:11. The second Freystadt doubles Andreas Pistorius/Petrovic won the first set, but then had to admit defeat. After the women’s doubles Neve/Rudert also lost in three sets, the score was 0:3.

Neve provided the connection point in the singles against the former Freystadt native and Serbian national player Sara Loncar. In extra time of the deciding set, Neve won 14:12. In the mixed doubles, Rudert and Mihaljo Tomic met two-time Olympian Fuchs and Leonie Wronna. This game was also only decided in extra time of the fifth set – again in favor of TSV. Rudert/Tomic prevailed 15:13 and inflicted Fuchs’ first defeat of the season. Now there was hope in the Freystadt camp: Petrovic played against Jonas Scheller, who had always lost out in previous duels. But Petrovic missed several match points and became nervous, Scheller won the deciding set 11:8. When the second men’s singles went to Saarbrücken, the 2:5 defeat was certain. The new leader is Dortelweil, Freystadt remains second, 1. BCB third.
